Localization Services
ESRI NeA’s localization services revolve around releasing Arabic versions of GIS Software products, in addition to catering to the region’s needs. Being ESRI NeA, we recognized a growing need in the region for Arabic releases of ESRI software.
Our localization process typically includes the following activities:
• Kickoff meetings to extract and develop a GIS Glossary
• Translating all the Graphical User Interface / GUI terms (string tables, menus and Dialogs)
• GUI Adjustments (Right-to-Left alignment and statement’s adjustment)
• Testing the Application to ensure the visual correctness of the output
• Generating localized output files for Windows 2000/XP platform
• Generating the final Arabic version
Accomplishments
We have successfully been able to launch an Arabic version of ArcGIS 9.1. These were the ArcGIS components that were localized:
• ArcInfo (ArcMap and ArcCatalog components)
• ArcReader
• 3D Analyst Extension
• Spatial Analyst Extension
• Geostatistical Analyst Extension
• Tracking Analyst Extension
• ArcScan Extension
• ArcGlobe Extension
Currently, the localization of both ArcGIS 9.2 core module and ArcPad 7.0 is taking place. The Arabic versions of both will take place soon during the year of 2008.
