ESRI NeA Shares Knowledge and Explores New Opportunities With Regional GIS Users at the 2009 ESRI Middle East & North Africa User Conference (MEAUC) in Bahrain

Date of Publishing: 08-12-09

ESRI Northeast Africa had the pleasure of participating and exhibiting its latest solutions in this year’s ESRI MEAUC 2009 which was held this November in Bahrain. The exhibition was inaugurated by HE Sheikh Ahmed Ateyatalla Al Khalifa, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, and ESRI President Jack Dangermond, both of whom showed interest in ESRI NeA’s achievements and latest solutions. Our two main features in this year’s conference and exhibition were our new solution framework, .Geo, and our presentation on integrating ArcGIS Server with Microsoft SharePoint. Live demos were held within the ESRI NeA booth to further elaborate on how these new solutions can be applied on different industries and within different enterprises.

Our new .Geo Framework, which was received with great enthusiasm from ESRI and users alike, comes in two bundles: basic and enterprise. .Geo Basic is a powerful GIS data viewing and mapping service. The application is built on ArcGIS Server software and can consume local services, or ESRI’s online services. The application is built using a Rich Internet Application (RIA) framework using FLEX, and avails a varied set of features that provide some typical GIS features that can be adapted to the client’s business needs. .Geo Basic runs on existing ArcGIS Server software.

As for .Geo Enterprise, it is also built on top of ESRI ArcGIS Server software and is designed to help large scale organizations consolidate all their disparate data, and connect them through the single most common factor: location. The common geospatial factor links data intelligently bringing insight at a whole new level. In addition, .Geo Enterprise provides an advanced set of GIS functionalities to further leverage the client’s data power.

The presentation on integrating ArcGIS Server with Microsoft SharePoint 2007 was met with great enthusiasm by conference attendees. MS SharePoint 2007 is a rich server application for the enterprise that facilitates collaboration, provides full content management features, and implements business processes. The presentation highlighted how GIS features and data could be managed through the SharePoint as well, allowing users to have one single intranet within the enterprise, instead of managing multiple systems.

This year’s MEAUC marks another round of success for ESRI NeA in establishing itself in the region, setting high standards for the quality of work provided, and exploring new GIS ventures and opportunities.
