Following up on the success of Phase I of our Enterprise GIS for the Environmental General Authority (EGA) in Libya- a scientific and consulting entity dedicated to the provision of natural resources, combating of environmental pollution, and maintenance of biological diversity-and building on the highly appreciated and respected cooperation and support of EGA Management and team, ESRI NeA will embark on the second phase of building the Enterprise GIS for EGA. Phase II will help reap the expected benefits of the implemented system, and will further enhance the role of Geographical Information Systems in solving Environmental problems.
Phase I entailed building the infrastructure for the EGIS. The second phase will focus on developing some applications that cover EGA’s key business areas and automate EGA’s top priorities as regards procedures and studies.
ESRI NeA’s Environmental GIS Solution aims at empowering environmental agencies and entities by utilizing GIS to support their business procedures. This makes the client a key player in solving different environmental problems, in addition to helping the client in evaluating the different environmental phenomenon, and effectively managing environmental studies. Accordingly, the EGIS provides clients with a pioneering position in the market and region. The solution typically consists of several application modules that cater to the various needs of clients within this line of work. The Environmental Studies Framework Module allows the client to initiate, create, monitor, and close any environmental study, as well as attach various documentation that is related to the study, such as the study proposal, status reports, and final report, in addition to storing previous or currently running studies. The Environmental Impact Assessment Module is an application that automates the process of requesting Environmental Impact Assessment studies and tracks the study’s status, in addition to notifying the applicant with the decision that has been taken regarding the study.
As for the Environmental Legislations Module, it provides users with the ability to define the legislations for different environmental model components. It also allows the staff to easily define local and international agreements and regulations that set the framework for different environmental activities. Finally, a Geographic Information Portal allows both the public and governmental entities to navigate through the metadata and sample maps published by the client via a web portal, in addition to availing a number of GIS functionalities. This portal gives the client the ability to publish and exchange the results of any environmental study and data based on defined privileges for the public users.
